Seirei Tsukai no
Blade Dance is a story about world where spirits exist and only pure maidens
have the privilege of contracting with the spirits, maidens from noble families
gather at Areishia Spirit Academy where they are trained to become an elementalist.
Kamito Kazehaya is the main character of this story, he join the Spirit Academy by invitation from the
Academy's director, Greyworth Ciel Mais. In the way to academy he meet a girl
named Claire Rouge purifying herself in a lake. She is, upset, and embarrassed
then attacks him. Finally He is able to avoid the worst of her wrath and
accompanies her to find sealed sword spirit. Claire try to make contract with
sealed sword spirit, but failed and Kamito with make contract with the sword
spirit himself int the order to save her.
Two mount until the Blade Dance competition, Kamito
Kazehaya get many experience in an academy and meet other heroine, Rinslet
Laurenfrost, Fianna Ray Ordesiais, Ellis Fahrengart and Est (Est is the Sealed
sword spirit itself, actually she is Kamito sword, not partner). There is a
little conflict between Kamito and Claire with all heroine, finally Kamito and
Claire team up with those heroine.
Kamito Kazehaya

He
is the world's only known male elementalist. Actually he is the second male
elementalist (the first’s appear 1000 years ago, known as Demon King). He made
contract with the sealed sword spirit, Est, while responding to a summon from
the director of Areishia Spirit Academy.
Kamito was
raised as an elite assassin by the Institutional School when he was a child. He
was train to being emotionless in the order to become deadly life weapon. his
life changed after meet the spirit, Restia. She taught him about the outside world
and rekindled his emotions in the process. The Institutional School was
attacked and destroyed by a rampant fire spirit which allowed him to escape,
along with aspecial ring that belonged to the first "Demon King",
imprisoning Restia. He meet up with Greyworth, before she became the director
of the Academy. The assassin skills from the Instructional School coupled with
the sword skills taught by Greyworth make him a fearsome sword fighter.
Kamito has participated
in the Blade Dance three years ago in drag under the name Ren Ashbell and won
the title of the Strongest Blade Dancer. He had long hair at the time, and girls
form. All heroin of this story were very proud of Ren Ashbell without know the
true identity. Fianna accidently discovered his secret when he try to save her.
Kamito also confess himself as Ren Ashbell to Claire in the end of volume 10
while he fight Rubia (Claire big sister). Three years ago Kamito was using
Black Vorpal Sword, which is incarnation of Restia with the contract cycle in
his left hand and covered by glove in the present. In the beginning of story,
because of some reason Kamito unable to summon Restia again then he using a
white sword, which is Est incarnation with contract cycle in his right hand.
Est was a holy sword, that kill the demon king 1000 years ago and sealed after
her user die without accept any contract until meet Kamito.
Claire Rouge
Voiced by: Ibuki Kido
Claire is the
younger daughter of Duke Elstein. She inherited the Elstein fire-red hair and using
Fire magic. Claire contract spirit was a fire cat named Scarlet. The Elsteins
were grand nobles who had served the royal family for generations ever since
the founding of the Ordesian Empire. Four years ago her elder sister, Rubia,
the Queen serving under the Fire Elemental Lord, snatched the strongest flame
spirit, Laevateinn, and disappeared. Outraged by this betrayal, the Fire
Elemental Lord burned parts of the Empire and would not allow any fires other
than those of Flame Spirits to exist within the Empire. As the result of that
incident, the Elstein duchy and fortune were seized and the duke and his wife
were imprisoned in Balsas's prison. Although Claire was not sent to prison, but
treated badly by people. However, she join the academy, the source of her
allowance at the Academy is unknown but it is sufficient for her to live
frugally.
She dropped the
Elstein family name and being call Claire Rouge name in Spirit Academy.
Initially a meek and shy child Claire has strengthened herself in order to win
the Blade Dance and find out the reasons for her sister's actions. Due to being
ostracized as the sister of the ""Calamity Queen", she has little
trust in anybody other than Scarlet. Claire has studied intensely to become one
of the top students of the school and become an able strategist.
In spite of her
academic and practical accomplishments, Claire is considered to be a
troublesome student due to fights she gets into with those who talk of her
beloved sister. In the beginning she treats Kamito as her 'slave spirit' as
punishment for contracting Est in her place, however she feel be grateful to meet
Kamito and fall in love with him. Like many other maidens, she
was inspired by Ren Ashbell's Blade Dance three years ago. She has suspicions
of Kamito being Ren Ashbell after saw his fight style, finally she ensure Ren
Ashbell true identity while taking Restia in vorpal sword form when try to
saving Restia in volume 9.
Ellis Fahrengart
Voiced by: Shizuka Ishigami
A daughter of Duke Fahrengart who's the
head of the militant Fahrengart family. She has contracted with Simurgh, a wind
spirit who appears as a large hawk with a waffe form of a spear. Ellis has a
two years-elder adopted sister, Velsaria Eva Fahrengart who was defeated by Ren
Ashbell three years ago.
Ellis is the captain of the Sylphid
Knights, a group of students, who help protect the Academy, enforce discipline
and morals, handle wild spirits and the recently opened Astral Gates in the
forest. She doesn’t have a good relation with Claire, and often argued with
her. Although initially vehemently against Kamito's presence at the Academy (as
the only other known male elementalist was the demon king).
After several times and finished some
mission with him, she can accept Kamito presence. She also invite Kamito to
join her team but rejected by Kamito, in the end because her teammate injure
when doing a misson she team up with Claire for the sake of her teammate. seeing
Kamito fight numerous times she is suspicious of how similar his fighting style
is to Ren Ashbell's, but is still unable to prove it.
Rinslet Laurenfrost
Voiced by: Kana Yūki
She is first
daughters of the Laurenfrost family. She has two younger sisters named Judia
and Mireille. Rinslet personality is that of a showoff that enjoys the
spotlight chance permitting, but not at the expense of doing her duty. Despite
that is still a shy girl who hides her concern for others and unlike many people,
she never treated Claire any differently when she big sister Rubia becoming the
Calamity Queen. She has ice wolf spirit called Fenrir, with waffe form a bow.
Although whether he is just the family spirit or has a great history like
Scarlet is unknown. Due to being contracted with him she is very skilled in Ice
magic and an accomplished sniper with his Waffe form of a bow. Like the others,
she was love Kamito, but is too embarrassed to tell him or anyone else about
it. She has a maid named Carol, who completely lacking in skills of being a
maid but Rinslet still hired and take Carol to inside of academy to serve her.
Rinslet almost
have an argue with Claire, but actually she is Claire child friend and Claire
only friend in academy. She enters the Blade Dance with the wish for the Water
Lord to forgive her sister Judia and break the eternal ice curse cast upon her
for what was thought to be a mistake during a kagura dance to the Water Lord.
Fianna Ray Ordesia
Voiced by: Saori Ōnishi
She is the
second princess of the Ordesian Empire and the chosen contractor of the family
guardian spirit, Georgios. She is aware that Kamito is Ren Ashbell due to him
having saved her from a rogue spirit while wielding Restia three years
previously. She demanded his true name and made a promise to meet him again.
When she enrolls in the Academy, Greyworth asks Kamito's team to act as
Fianna's bodyguard and Kamito does not recognize her at first due to trauma and
Restia's magic clouding his memories around the time of his wish, even though
she love Kamito very much.
Fianna was
raised as a typical potential Queen candidate maiden being trained in seclusion
but she has been unable to summon Georgios since Rubia used the just stolen
Levateinn to take out Georgios in one strike. As a result she was ostracized as
the "Lost Queen", practically disowned, and treated harshly by not
only her family, but the family servants and other nobles as well. Fianna joins
Team Scarlet, and with the support of Kamito and the others, is able to summon
Georgios again. Her purpose in entering the Blade Dance is to regain her
ability as an elementalist. After regaining Georgios she takes on the role of
Support in the team; strengthening her allies, creating a "home
field" advantage, establishing a "stronghold," etc.
Terminus Est
Voiced by: Ai Kakuma
Est is Kamito's
second contracted spirit. For some reason, she can't return to Astral Zero to
recharge and so spends a large amount of time sleeping in sword form to recover
her strength. she likes to be praised and having Kamito pat her on the head but
she gets jealous when Kamito praises other girls.
In the past, she
was contracted to Areishia Idriss, the Sacred Queen who defeated the Demon
King, but her unique ability which destroys curses unfortunately builds up her
own curse until it activates turning her wielder into Spirit Crystal. After
years of daily fighting, her curse finally took its toll and, Est witnessed
Areishia turn into crystal right in front of her. Afterwards that she sealed
herself in the Demon King's armory and refused to make a contract with anyone
to prevent the same thing from happening again. She try to sealed herself away
again after her memory was restored, not wanting to curse Kamito too. With stubbornly
kamito ask Est to return to his sword, and finally she lend her power to Kamito
again in the end of volume 5.
Restia Ashdoll
Voiced by: Yōko Hikasa
Kamito's first
contracted spirit. She was sealed in the ring of Sulaimon and taught Kamito
everything including about the world beyond the Institutional School, and
giving him emotions as well as forming a Spirit Contract with him without
permission. After the Institutional School was destroyed Kamito took the ring
and searched for a way to release her, eventually leading him to Greyworth Ciel
Mais who took an interest in him and helped him to release her from the ring.
Afterwards she and Kamito took part in the Blade dance becoming the Strongest
Blade dancer and making a forbidden wish which corrupted her and made her
disappear. It's later revealed that she was one of the 72 pillars of the first
Demon King and that her job is to find, select, and raise a potential candidate
as the next Demon King if she feels that person is worthy of inheriting the
title. Kamito is the first potential candidate she has come into contact with
who was not overwhelmed by the Demon King's power within them. Like Est she
cares very deeply for Kamito and is jealous that Est is also Kamito's
contracted spirit
Her elemental
waffe is The Sword That Pierces Truth Vorpal Sword that looks like a black
greatsword with a red edge. Her special power as a sword is releasing powerful
black/purple lightning that destroys almost everything it touches. To ensure
that she doesn't become the "Enemy of the World" she told Kamito to
kill her if she became someone other than herself.
Greyworth Ciel Mais
Voiced by: Mai Nakahara
In the present (three years later), she
summons Kamito to Areishia Spirit Academy where she enrolls him as a transfer
and forces him to participate in the current Blade Dance. It is later revealed
that despite her wish, she is suffering from a debilitating illness and loses
her ability to contract with spirits.
